New Delhi: The Indian Ocean Ship SAGAR (INS Sunayna) departed Malé on April 8, marking another step in strengthening maritime cooperation between India and the Maldives, the Indian Navy said on Thursday.
The visit featured a range of professional and cultural engagements between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), reflecting the growing depth of bilateral ties.
As part of its departure, INS Sunayna conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with MNDF Coast Guard Ship Ghazee, demonstrating enhanced coordination and interoperability between the two maritime forces.
During the port call, Commanding Officer Siddharth Chaudhary held discussions with Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Force, MNDF, and Mohamed Saleem, Commandant of the MNDF Coast Guard. The interactions focused on expanding joint training initiatives and reinforcing sustained strategic engagement.
A key highlight of the visit was the participation of a multinational crew aboard IOS SAGAR, comprising personnel from 16 friendly foreign countries. Their engagement with MNDF leadership reflected a broader commitment to international maritime cooperation.
Beyond operational exchanges, the visit also included cultural and social interactions, including sports events with MNDF personnel, fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding.
