New Delhi, August 22: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ FASTag Annual Pass Scheme for non-commercial cars, jeeps, and vans has come into effect from August 15, 2025, reducing the need for frequent recharges by highway commuters.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Friday said these measures are intended to ease user fee burdens and streamline toll collection for private vehicle owners.

The scheme, notified through Gazette amendment No. G.S.R. 388(E) on June 17, 2025, allows vehicle owners to activate the annual pass with a payment of ₹3,000. It covers 200 fee plaza crossings or one year of travel, whichever comes earlier. In closed user fee collection systems, a single entry and exit through a fee plaza will count as one crossing.

The pass applies across National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) but not on State Highways and State Expressways. However, the Ministry has offered technical support to state governments wishing to introduce a similar system.

Additionally, the Ministry has rationalized fee structures under Gazette Notification No. G.S.R. 437(E) dated July 1, 2025. The revised calculation of toll charges for stretches with structures such as bridges and tunnels will now be based on either ten times the structure length added to the remaining highway section or five times the total length, whichever is lower.
