Story-led financial literacy initiative aims to simplify capital market concepts for investors across India

Mumbai: The CDSL Investor Protection Fund (CDSL IPF) on Tuesday launched a multilingual investor education comic series in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha, marking a significant step towards strengthening financial literacy through culturally rooted storytelling.

The series was unveiled at CDSL’s 3rd Annual Symposium, Reimagine: Securities Market through Data Synergy, and officially launched by Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

Developed by CDSL IPF under SEBI’s guidance, the initiative seeks to simplify complex financial concepts and promote informed participation in India’s capital markets. By leveraging Amar Chitra Katha’s storytelling legacy, the comics aim to make investor education engaging, accessible and inclusive.

Speaking at the launch, Pandey said investor awareness is fundamental to building inclusive and transparent securities markets. He commended depositories for their continued efforts in investor education, noting that initiatives such as a comic book series can significantly enhance financial literacy. He also referenced campaigns including ‘Slam the Scam’ and ‘AtmanirbHER’ as impactful efforts in empowering individuals to participate confidently in financial markets.

Nehal Vora, Managing Director and CEO of Central Depository Services (India) Limited, said investor education is most effective when it is simple, relatable and trustworthy. Partnering with Amar Chitra Katha, he said, enables CDSL IPF to use storytelling as a tool to foster informed and confident financial decision-making.

The comic series will be available in both digital and print formats. Print editions will be distributed through investor protection programmes and will be published in 12 languages — English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya — ensuring outreach across urban and rural segments.

Sudhish Pillai, Head of CDSL IPF Secretariat, said strengthening investor protection begins with strengthening awareness. Simplifying complex financial concepts through storytelling, he added, will help investors recognise risks, make informed choices and participate safely in capital markets.

The Amar Chitra Katha series forms part of CDSL IPF’s broader mission to promote financial literacy and responsible investing. During FY 2024–25, CDSL IPF conducted 2,526 Investor Awareness Programs across 34 states and union territories, covering 513 districts and reaching over 1.47 lakh participants in multiple regional languages.

The comics are available at www.cdslipf.com and on the Tinkle app.
