Godrej Industries, Malaysian delegation brainstorm cooperation in oil palm research and innovation
Godrej Industries Group and a Malaysian delegation discussed advanced research for India-adapted oil palm varieties, along with opportunities in trade, sustainability and household insecticides.
During discussions with Godrej Agrovet, the two sides explored opportunities in the upstream oil palm sector and the use of advanced research and scientific tools to develop varieties suitable for different Indian growing conditions.
BENGALURU: Godrej Industries Group has held discussions with a high-level Malaysian delegation on expanding cooperation in oil palm research and innovation, including the development of high-performing varieties suited to India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions.
The Malaysian delegation was led by Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Malaysia’s Minister of Plantation and Commodities, and included representatives from the country’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil, along with the Consul General of Malaysia in Chennai.
During discussions with Godrej Agrovet, the two sides explored opportunities in the upstream oil palm sector and the use of advanced research and scientific tools to develop varieties suitable for different Indian growing conditions.
Such cooperation could support locally adapted planting materials, improve crop productivity and resilience and contribute to India’s longer-term edible oil security, according to the company.
The delegation also held discussions with Godrej Consumer Products Limited on the household insecticides sector, including the business environment, trade, innovation and sustainable development.
Noraini Ahmad said India and Malaysia have long-standing ties in sectors linked to economic growth and food security, adding that the discussions explored opportunities for cooperation in research, innovation, trade and sustainability.
“Engagements of this nature help us identify practical areas where Malaysian and Indian industry players can work together and create mutual value,” she said.
Rakesh Swami, Group President and Head of Corporate Affairs at Godrej Industries Group, said the discussions highlighted opportunities to advance science-led innovation in oil palm and strengthen the ecosystem supporting the household insecticides sector.
The engagement identified potential areas for further technical and industry-level cooperation, particularly in oil palm research and innovation as well as trade and industry development.
Godrej Industries Group operates across FMCG, real estate, financial services, agriculture and chemicals. The group reported sales of $6.1 billion in FY25 and a market capitalisation of about $20 billion as of March 31, 2026.
