New Delhi, October 17: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed officials to ensure the time-bound implementation of two key agricultural initiatives — the ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’ and the ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ (PM-DDKY).

Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the ministry, Chouhan emphasized that both schemes are crucial to India’s goals of achieving agricultural self-reliance, productivity enhancement, and farmer welfare.

To ensure rapid rollout of the PM-DDKY, the Minister will convene a meeting with ministers from 11 key ministries, along with senior officials from NITI Aayog, to coordinate policy convergence and streamline implementation. The scheme integrates 36 sub-schemes across 11 ministries and focuses on accelerating agricultural advancement in 100 aspirational districts across the country.

Chouhan instructed officials to hold consultations with state governments and district administrations to ensure the schemes reach the grassroots. He noted that timely execution of both initiatives will directly benefit farmers and enhance India’s agricultural capacity.

Under the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission, district-level clusters will be developed with active participation from states. The mission aims to expand the area under pulses cultivation from 275 lakh hectares to 310 lakh hectares, raise production from 242 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes, and boost productivity to 1,130 kg per hectare by 2030–31.

Both initiatives are long-term programs designed for six years starting FY 2025–26, with an annual outlay of ₹24,000 crore for the PM-DDKY and ₹11,440 crore for the Pulses Mission.

Earlier, on October 11, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the two landmark schemes at a mega event in Pusa, New Delhi. The initiatives, Chouhan said, will not only strengthen India’s food security but also generate substantial employment opportunities and ensure sustainable income growth for farmers across the nation.
