Passport Verification Record Now Available on DigiLocker, Boosting Convenience and Security for Citizens
With the integration of PVR, citizens can now retrieve their verification record directly in the "Issued Documents" section of DigiLocker after successful verification, strengthening trust, transparency and ease of access.
New Delhi, December 5: In a major push toward seamless and citizen-centric digital governance, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled the Passport Verification Record (PVR) on the DigiLocker platform. The move marks a significant expansion of India’s digital public infrastructure, allowing millions of citizens to securely access and share their passport verification details without relying on physical documents.
DigiLocker, part of the Digital India initiative, enables the secure issuance, storage and verification of digital documents. With the integration of PVR, citizens can now retrieve their verification record directly in the “Issued Documents” section of DigiLocker after successful verification, strengthening trust, transparency and ease of access.
MeitY said the facility is designed to simplify verification-related procedures in travel, employment and compliance, where authenticated passport verification records are often required. Digital availability of PVR is expected to reduce paperwork, remove delays caused by manual handling, and allow institutions to verify records instantly with citizen consent.
The digitally issued PVR will be secure, tamper-proof and authenticated directly by government systems, ensuring reliability in line with DigiLocker’s trusted architecture. Citizens will also be able to share the record digitally with authorised agencies, eliminating the need for attested photocopies or multiple physical submissions.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader push for paperless governance and environmentally responsible administrative processes. By moving passport verification workflows to a digital format, the MEA–MeitY collaboration reinforces a whole-of-government approach to enhancing service delivery through secure digital platforms.
Officials noted that the new capability will benefit both passport applicants and existing passport holders by streamlining verification steps, improving turnaround time, and encouraging wider adoption of digital documents across public and private sectors.
