New Delhi, August 16: India hosted the 10th Meeting of the ASEAN–India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee and related discussions at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, from August 10 to 14, 2025. The hybrid-format meeting was co-chaired by Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India, and Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary General (Trade), Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry, Malaysia. Delegates from all ten ASEAN member states participated.

The Joint Committee deliberated on ways to advance the ongoing review of AITIGA, focusing on enhancing the agreement’s effectiveness, accessibility, and trade facilitation mechanisms. These talks built on progress achieved through eight earlier negotiation rounds.

On the sidelines, seven Sub-Committees also convened to address technical and procedural aspects: Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, Legal and Institutional Issues, National Treatment and Market Access, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Rules of Origin, Standards and Conformity Assessment, and Trade Remedies. These meetings strengthened collaboration and ensured alignment with the broader goal of modernising AITIGA.

ASEAN continues to be a major trade partner for India, accounting for nearly 11% of India’s global trade. Bilateral trade reached USD 123 billion in FY 2024–25, underscoring the depth of economic ties and future potential for growth.

The next Joint Committee meeting will be hosted by Malaysia at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on October 6–7, 2025.
