HQ Integrated Defence Staff Marks 25th Raising Day, Reinforces Role in Joint Military Preparedness
Saluting the dedication of its personnel past and present, HQ IDS reaffirmed its mandate of providing unified planning, force structuring, and doctrinal evolution to boost the operational effectiveness of the Indian military.
New Delhi, October 1: Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) on Wednesday celebrated its 25th Raising Day, marking two and a half decades since its establishment in 2001 as the permanent institution for promoting jointness and integration across the Armed Forces.
Conceived to strengthen tri-service synergy, HQ IDS has evolved into a pivotal organisation advancing India’s preparedness in new domains such as cyber, artificial intelligence, and space. It has supported the creation of joint military structures, facilitated integrated theatre-level mechanisms, and accelerated indigenous capability development in line with the government’s Atmanirbharta vision in defence.
Over the years, HQ IDS has coordinated the Combined Commanders’ Conference at the apex level, conducted joint staff talks with partner nations, and contributed to multinational defence cooperation frameworks. In the humanitarian domain, it has played a crucial role in disaster response, training, and deployment of tri-service assets.
In 2025, HQ IDS introduced the Combined Operational Review and Evaluation (CORE) programme to enhance joint training and education. Officials said a roadmap is in place to deepen integration further by advancing joint doctrines, institutionalising technology-driven training, and expanding India’s role in multilateral security cooperation.
Saluting the dedication of its personnel past and present, HQ IDS reaffirmed its mandate of providing unified planning, force structuring, and doctrinal evolution to boost the operational effectiveness of the Indian military.
