Electoral College Finalized for Vice-Presidential Election 2025: ECI Prepares for Formal Notification
Updated list of eligible MPs completed in accordance with constitutional and statutory mandates
New Delhi | August 1: With the Vice-Presidential Election 2025 approaching, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has completed the preparation of the Electoral College, fulfilling its constitutional responsibility under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution.
As per Article 66(1), the Vice-President is elected by an Electoral College comprising elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and elected members of the Lok Sabha. In line with Rule 40 of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974, the Commission has prepared and finalized an updated and authenticated list of these members.
State-wise Alphabetical Arrangement
The finalized Electoral College list arranges members alphabetically by State and Union Territory, ensuring clarity and transparency in the voting process. The list includes the names and latest addresses of all eligible Members of Parliament, serialized in a continuous order for administrative efficiency.
Availability of the Electoral College List
The Election Commission will make the list available for purchase at a designated counter at its headquarters from the date of official notification, which is expected to be issued shortly.
This procedural milestone marks a key step in the upcoming electoral process for the Vice-President of India, reinforcing the constitutional commitment to free, fair, and orderly elections to the nation’s highest constitutional offices.
