Dr Supriya Goudiperu named South Asia Commander of IPC GC IGO, first Indian woman to receive Lieutenant General rank
Dr Supriya Ratna Kumar Goudiperu has been recognised as South Asia Commander of IPC GC IGO with the organisation’s paramilitary rank of Lieutenant General, according to an official press note.
Goudiperu is the first Indian woman to receive the paramilitary rank of Lieutenant General within IPC GC IGO, according to the release.
NEW DELHI: Dr Supriya Ratna Kumar Goudiperu has been recognised as South Asia Commander of the International Police Commission – Global Command Inter-Governmental Organization (IPC GC IGO), carrying the organisation’s paramilitary rank of IPC Lieutenant General, according to a press note issued by the organisation.
Goudiperu is the first Indian woman to receive the paramilitary rank of Lieutenant General within IPC GC IGO, according to the release.
IPC GC IGO described the recognition as a milestone for Indian women’s participation in its international leadership and humanitarian activities. The organisation says its work focuses on areas including humanitarian service, international cooperation, peace-oriented initiatives, social development and public-safety capacity building.
As South Asia Commander, Goudiperu will have responsibilities related to advancing the organisation’s activities in the region, particularly in humanitarian engagement, international cooperation, social development, community assistance and peace-oriented initiatives, the press note said.
Philippines visit follows recognition
Goudiperu undertook an official visit to the Philippines from September 19 to 25, during which she participated in meetings and organisational engagements with IPC GC IGO’s global leadership.
During the visit, she met Robert S. Biazon, identified by the organisation as its Supreme Commanding General, along with senior members of its Global Command. The engagements were aimed at strengthening institutional relations between the South Asia Command and the organisation’s global leadership.
She also interacted with members of the IPC GC IGO Philippine Command and representatives of its commands in South Korea, Bangladesh and the United States. According to the organisation, the meetings focused on strengthening coordination and exploring opportunities for cooperation across its regional commands.
The organisation said Goudiperu’s role is expected to involve engagement with communities, institutions, civil society organisations and international partners on humanitarian and social-development initiatives across South Asia.
