DPIIT Secretary Reviews Tumakuru Industrial Area, Engages Startups at IoT & AI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, August 4: In a strategic move to boost India’s deep-tech innovation and accelerate industrial infrastructure, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Amardeep Singh Bhatia, led a high-level delegation to Bengaluru for a comprehensive visit to the K-tech MeitY Nasscom Centre of Excellence for IoT & AI and a detailed review of the Tumakuru Industrial Area, a key project under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).

Accompanied by Rajat Kumar Saini, CEO and MD of NICDC, and senior officials from DPIIT and Startup India, the Secretary toured India’s largest deep-tech innovation hub to interact with startups, incubation managers, and technology leaders. The visit focused on understanding how emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, AR/VR, Robotics, and Big Data are being applied to solve real-world challenges in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and urban mobility.

The delegation explored policy and infrastructure support required to scale innovation and emphasized creating a seamless ecosystem that connects startups, enterprises, academia, and government. Secretary Bhatia noted that such platforms are pivotal to India’s ambition of becoming a global technology and manufacturing hub.

Tumakuru Industrial Area Review

Following the startup engagement, the DPIIT Secretary conducted an on-ground review of the Tumakuru Industrial Area, a flagship NICDP initiative spread over 1,736 acres. He inspected progress on internal roads, utility corridors, and drainage systems under Phase A development and held review meetings with EPC contractor Larsen & Toubro and project management consultant HaskoningDHV.

L&T assured that key construction milestones would be expedited to facilitate land allotment to industries by year-end. Secretary Bhatia emphasized strict adherence to project timelines and international quality benchmarks to attract investment across sectors including electronics, clean tech, automotive, and logistics.

Visits to Strategic Industrial Sites

The delegation also visited Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt Ltd and the Devanahalli Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ). A tour of Dynamatic Technologies, a leading aerospace component manufacturer, showcased India’s growing competencies in precision engineering and global aerospace supply chains.

Collaborative Push for Investment and Export Growth

The review meeting in Tumakuru saw participation from key stakeholders, including Dr Selvakumar S, Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka; Dr Mahesh M, MD, KIADB; Shubha Kalyan, Deputy Commissioner of Tumakuru; and senior officials from NICDC and the state government.

Secretary Bhatia underscored the importance of aligning industrial infrastructure with innovation and policy reform to realize India’s vision of export-led, investment-driven economic growth. He encouraged all stakeholders to leverage Karnataka’s strategic position and dynamic startup ecosystem to attract global and domestic investments, reinforcing India’s positioning as a manufacturing powerhouse under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
