Ayush lab secures global standard in diagnostics; over 1.5 lakh tests conducted annually

New Delhi: The Clinical Laboratory at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bengaluru, has become the first institute under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) to receive ISO 15189:2022 accreditation in both biochemistry and haematology.
The accreditation marks a significant milestone in strengthening quality-assured healthcare under the ministry of ayush, ensuring accurate, reliable and globally benchmarked diagnostic services.
The laboratory currently holds NABL accreditation for 50 diagnostic parameters and conducts over 1.5 lakh tests annually, reflecting its expanding capacity and growing role in patient care.
Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (independent charge) for Ayush, said the accreditation reinforces the government’s commitment to delivering precise diagnostics and improving treatment outcomes.
Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, described the achievement as a landmark step in integrating high-quality diagnostics with traditional systems of medicine, strengthening evidence-based practice and research in Ayush.
The laboratory offers a wide range of diagnostic services, including blood glucose, HbA1c, liver and kidney function tests, lipid and thyroid profiles, electrolytes and complete blood counts, supporting comprehensive clinical assessment.
In 2025–26, the facility conducted more than 1.52 lakh investigations for over 9,300 patients, supported by advanced systems and digital reporting tools that enable faster turnaround times and improved accessibility.
The institute has witnessed significant growth in recent years, with outpatient footfall rising from 18,918 in 2021 to over 51,300 in 2026, alongside a sharp increase in diagnostic services and clinical procedures.
An official statement said on Saturday the achievement reflects sustained institutional efforts, including upgrades from semi-automated to fully automated systems and adherence to rigorous quality standards under the Centre of Excellence scheme.
The laboratory plays a critical role in supporting ayurveda-based treatments by providing dependable diagnostic data for clinical decision-making and research, further strengthening the integration of traditional medicine with modern scientific standards.
