Anand Mahindra Calls Graduates to Build a Just, Sustainable Future at Mahindra University Convocation

Hyderabad, August 3: Mahindra University marked a major milestone at its fourth annual convocation today by conferring degrees on 956 students across disciplines including engineering, management, law, education, and PhD research. The ceremony, held at the university’s campus in Bahadurpally, Hyderabad, was led by Chancellor Anand Mahindra, who delivered a thought-provoking address urging students to live with purpose and shape a better world.
Delivering his keynote speech, Mahindra emphasized the unique vision of Mahindra University — “to educate future citizens for and of a better world”. He explained that being a citizen of a better world means embodying present-day values such as empathy, critical thinking, and ethics, while being a citizen for a better world calls for proactive responsibility to build a future rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and justice.
“You are the inheritors of today’s world, but you must also be the architects of tomorrow’s,” Mahindra said. He invoked the ancient wisdom of the Upanishads, “Yad bhāvaḥ, tat bhavati” — “As you believe, so it becomes” — reminding students that their beliefs and values must shape the world they create.
Addressing the graduating class, GV Prasad, Co-Chairman and MD of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, who was Chief Guest at the event, urged students to embrace lifelong learning, collaboration, and innovation. “Build workplaces and communities that break barriers. Challenges shape you, but your openness to learning defines your impact,” he said.
Vice Chancellor Dr Yajulu Medury praised the graduating batch for their perseverance and ambition. “The future of education belongs to those who challenge convention, imagine boldly, and build with purpose,” he said.
This convocation was especially historic as it included the first batch of students graduating from the university’s MBA, LLB, MA, and BTech Nanotechnology programs. Gold medals were awarded to 21 meritorious students for academic excellence.
Mahindra University also announced new strides in research and innovation with the inauguration of state-of-the-art biotechnology labs and the launch of a Centre for Risk Management. These initiatives, inaugurated by Anand Mahindra and GV Prasad, aim to strengthen the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary research and industry collaboration.
Mohit Joshi, CEO & MD of Tech Mahindra and Member of the Board of Management at Mahindra University, highlighted the growing importance of bridging disciplines. “Mahindra University thrives on industry-academia partnerships. This convocation is a reflection of our commitment to being future-ready while staying grounded in values,” he said.
With over 950 degrees awarded and new research initiatives underway, the convocation reaffirmed Mahindra University’s role in shaping responsible, visionary leaders prepared to face complex global challenges with purpose and innovation.
