Altmin Secures India’s First MSP Listing, Eyes Lithium Refinery to Break Chinese Monopoly

Hyderabad, September 9: Altmin Private Limited, a pioneer in battery materials and supply chain solutions, has become the first Indian company to secure a project listing under the US-led Mineral Security Partnership (MSP), a 14-nation initiative to ensure reliable critical mineral supply chains. The listing, finalized in August 2025, marks a historic milestone for India’s lithium ambitions and its clean energy transition.
The Ministry of Mines had proposed Altmin’s lithium refining project to the MSP in 2023, underscoring India’s commitment to securing critical minerals. The official listing positions India as a serious player in the global critical minerals landscape while boosting the country’s prospects for supply chain independence.
Lithium Refinery Breakthrough
Backed by the MSP recognition, Altmin has strategically acquired a lithium refinery and refining technology in Brazil — the only such facility outside China. The refinery’s integrated operations will convert spodumene ore into lithium carbonate equivalent (Li2CO3 and LiOH) across technical, pharmaceutical, battery, and even nuclear grades. Altmin is also exploring opportunities to establish refineries closer to India, aimed at building domestic refining capacity.
“This milestone gives India access to advanced lithium refining technology and resources, putting us on the path to building a strong, self-reliant critical minerals ecosystem,” said Anjani Sri Mourya Sunkavalli, Founder & MD, Altmin. “We thank the ministries and agencies representing India on the world stage for enabling this, as it strengthens the lithium supply chain from mines to end users.”
Strengthening India–Brazil Ties
The development also marks the first major transaction between Brazil and India in the critical minerals sector, reinforcing the BRICS partnership. With global demand for lithium-ion batteries set to soar, Altmin’s upstream integration will help establish India as a competitive Make in India hub for clean energy storage technologies.
Global Positioning
The MSP listing not only enhances India’s role in global critical minerals frameworks but also helps diversify global lithium refining away from China’s dominance. For India, this move is expected to accelerate its green transition, support electric mobility, and build resilience in clean energy supply chains.
