Aadhaar Face Authentication Crosses 200 Crore Transactions, Doubles in Just Six Months

UIDAI said the milestone demonstrates how inclusive technology, when scaled efficiently, can bridge divides, empower citizens, and accelerate India’s journey towards a connected and confident digital future.
New Delhi, August 12: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has achieved a major milestone with Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions crossing the 200 crore mark, doubling from 100 crore in less than six months. The technology enables Aadhaar holders to verify their identity instantly, securely, and contactlessly — without the need for any physical documents — from anywhere in the country, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) said in a statement on Monday.
The pace of adoption has been remarkable. UIDAI recorded 50 crore transactions by mid-2024, which doubled to 100 crore by January 2025 in just five months. Now, in under six months, the figure has doubled again, signalling exponential growth in usage, it said.
“This achievement underlines the trust and confidence that both residents and service providers have in Aadhaar’s secure, inclusive, and innovative authentication ecosystem,” said UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar. “From villages to metros, UIDAI is working with governments, banks, and service providers to make Aadhaar Face Authentication a grand success, giving every Indian the power to prove their identity instantly and securely, anywhere.”
The rapid growth reflects the core vision of the Digital India programme, which seeks to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. By enabling secure and paperless identity verification across the country, Aadhaar Face Authentication is strengthening the foundation of digital governance, the ministry said.
