New Delhi, December 19: Maharashtra is rapidly moving towards full 4G saturation and accelerating its transition to 5G connectivity, Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply in Parliament on Thursday.

Presenting state-wise telecom infrastructure data, Scindia said nearly 1.64 lakh 4G and about 40,000 5G base transceiver stations have been installed across Maharashtra so far. The large-scale rollout has significantly improved digital connectivity in both urban and rural areas, he said.

Highlighting regional progress, the minister pointed to substantial expansion of telecom infrastructure in the Konkan region. Palghar district has 5,463 4G and 1,609 5G BTS installations, while Thane has 6,710 4G and 1,989 5G BTS. Raigad has seen the deployment of 2,940 4G and 791 5G BTS, Ratnagiri has 2,292 4G and 465 5G BTS, and Sindhudurg has 975 4G and 256 5G BTS.

Scindia said the near-complete 4G coverage has laid a strong foundation for rapid 5G expansion across the state. He added that the government is focused on strengthening last-mile connectivity to support digital services, economic activity and citizen-centric applications.

He said the rollout is aligned with the Digital India vision, under which the government aims to provide fast, reliable and affordable digital connectivity to every citizen. With further expansion of 5G networks, digital empowerment across Maharashtra and the country is expected to gain further momentum, the minister said.
