RVNL marks World Quality Day with focus on innovation, precision and nation-building

Pune, November 14: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, observed World Quality Day and launched a month-long series of quality-focused initiatives as part of World Quality Month, underscoring its commitment to building a safer, stronger and modern infrastructure ecosystem for India.
RVNL’s Programme Implementation Unit (PIU), Pune, which is executing the Pune Metro Reach–01 Extension Project, held a special event aligned to this year’s global theme, “Quality: Think Differently.” The celebration highlighted RVNL’s pivotal contribution to quality-led infrastructure growth and its alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.
Strengthening India’s metro infrastructure
The Pune Metro Reach–1 Extension, implemented by RVNL for Maha Metro, is a significant addition to the North–South Corridor (Purple Line). RVNL’s scope includes the design and construction of a 4.519-km elevated viaduct from PCMC to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti), improving regional connectivity across residential, commercial and industrial zones.
Quality-first culture at the core
At the event, RVNL teams reiterated their commitment to precision and quality across all project stages. Key highlights included:
- A Quality Pledge reaffirming commitment to highest standards
- Knowledge sessions on quality assurance, innovation and global best practices
- A measurable reduction of Standard Deviation to 0.84, indicating improved consistency
- Structural advancements such as low-joint piers using 8–10 metre shuttering
- Material optimisation through multiple mix design trials
- Best-practice discussions on precast segments, stressing operations and segment launching
These initiatives underline RVNL’s focus on engineering discipline, sustainable construction and innovation-driven project delivery.

Vinay Kumar Agrawal, Chief Project Manager, PIU Pune, noted the technical sophistication of the Pune Metro project, emphasising the team’s commitment to global benchmarks in segment casting and viaduct construction.
