AM Green wins €585 million renewable ammonia supply deal for Germany
Supplies from the company’s Kakinada Phase 2 project are expected to begin in 2029, using renewable electricity backed by pumped-hydro storage to meet European Union requirements for renewable fuels.

HYDERABAD: AM Green Ammonia (India) has won the Asian lot of the German government-funded H2Global auction, securing a 10-year agreement under which Hintco will purchase renewable ammonia worth at least €585 million for supply to Germany.

The ammonia will be produced at Phase 2 of AM Green’s Kakinada project in Andhra Pradesh. The company is converting an existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea complex into a facility using alkaline electrolysis technology.
Electricity will come from round-the-clock renewable power backed by pumped-hydro storage, with the production process designed to meet European Union requirements for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin, or RFNBO.
First deliveries to Germany are expected in 2029. Shipments will leave through Kakinada Seaports, located alongside the plant.
Hintco, the trading arm of the non-profit H2Global Foundation, uses a double-auction mechanism to buy and resell clean hydrogen-based products. The mechanism aims to reduce investment uncertainty for producers while developing supply markets for European buyers.
Hintco CEO and H2Global co-founder Timo Bollerhey said long-term contracts gave producers the certainty to invest and helped secure reliable supplies for European customers.
AM Green Group President and Joint Managing Director Mahesh Kolli said the award validated the readiness of the company’s platform to supply renewable ammonia from India at an industrial scale.
Promoted by Greenko Group’s founders, AM Green aims to develop five million tonnes of annual green ammonia capacity across India. Its one-million-tonne-a-year Kakinada plant is under construction.
Hintco said full auction results would be published before the end of 2026 alongside those of other regional tenders. Further details are being withheld to protect ongoing bidding processes.
