Mumbai: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday inaugurated the renovated Andheri Railway Station (RS) Post Office in Mumbai as a future-ready postal service hub under the India Post initiative ‘Jan Sewa Connect’.

The upgraded facility is Maharashtra’s first and India’s second post office to be inaugurated under the Jan Sewa Connect programme, which aims to modernise traditional post offices into digitally empowered and citizen-centric service centres.

Originally established in 1932-33, the Andheri RS Post Office has been redesigned with modern infrastructure, digital integration, improved customer amenities, enhanced branding, and technology-enabled service delivery systems. The project was implemented in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture.

The Andheri facility has been selected under the Proof-of-Concept (PoC) initiative currently being implemented across 40 post offices in 17 states as part of India Post’s infrastructure transformation strategy.

During the event, the dignitaries also released a special commemorative cover marking the inauguration of the renovated post office. Senior officials including Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle, along with public representatives Harun Khan, Rupesh Savarkar, and Acharya Pawan Tripathi, were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Scindia said the initiative reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a modern, futuristic, and citizen-focused postal infrastructure across the country.

Fadnavis highlighted the historic role played by India Post in connecting communities and ensuring last-mile delivery of services across urban and rural India.

With a network of over 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide, India Post continues to remain one of the country’s largest public service delivery institutions. The Department of Posts recorded a 16 percent growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26, which officials attributed to ongoing transformation and digital modernisation initiatives.

Under the Jan Sewa Connect programme, India Post plans to upgrade around 2,000 post offices across Maharashtra into accessible, efficient, and digitally integrated community service hubs. the ministry said.
