Justice Lisa Gill Appointed First Woman Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court
The appointment has been made by the President in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
To assume office on April 25 following retirement of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur
New Delhi: Justice Lisa Gill has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the history of the court.
The appointment has been made by the President in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Justice Gill is currently serving as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. She will assume charge as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from April 25, 2026.
The appointment follows the retirement of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, who is set to demit office on April 24, 2026.
Her elevation marks a significant milestone in the judicial landscape, reflecting the gradual rise of women to leadership roles in the higher judiciary.
