Mumbai, December 5: Enterprise AI platform Workday has deepened its commitment to India, announcing leadership changes, expansion plans and new cloud infrastructure aimed at positioning the country as a core innovation and growth hub for the global company. The move comes as enterprises across sectors accelerate adoption of AI-driven platforms to transform how workforces are managed.

Workday, which manages people, money and AI agents for more than 11,000 global organisations, said it will scale hiring through FY27 and open new offices in Delhi and Bengaluru. The company currently employs over 1,000 people across Pune, Chennai and Mumbai, and expects to exceed 1,200 by March 2026. Sunil Jose, recently appointed as President, India, will lead the next phase of expansion.

Rob Enslin, president and chief commercial officer at Workday, said India remains “at the heart of Workday’s global innovation journey,” citing the country’s deep talent pool and rapid enterprise digitisation. “Our commitment goes beyond business growth — it’s about fostering innovation that shapes the global workplace,” he said.

The India teams support a wide spectrum of Workday’s global functions, including product development, AI research, professional services and customer experience. With more than 1,800 global customers and 3.8 million monthly active users in India, the company said it is witnessing significant shifts in how organisations plan adoption of AI responsibly across HR and finance workflows.

“India’s enterprises are at a defining moment,” said Jose. “Digital acceleration and AI are reshaping how businesses operate and empower their people. Our people-first innovation approach helps organisations simplify complexity and unlock human potential.”

Workday also announced that Indian customers will soon have the option to deploy Workday Human Capital Management (HCM), Financial Management and Adaptive Planning on Amazon Web Services in India. The India-region data centre will be available for provisioning new customers from December 2025, with migration options for existing customers from early 2026, subject to regulatory requirements.

Enterprises such as Genpact, which operates with a global workforce of over 140,000, said Workday’s unified, cloud-native data model has enabled real-time insights and improved operational agility. “Workday’s roadmap aligns strongly with our vision for an agentic AI future,” said Vidya Rao, the company’s chief information and transformation officer.

Workday said its long-term India strategy is centred on building an intelligent, open and trusted enterprise AI platform designed to elevate human potential. With the country’s fast-growing digital talent landscape and expanding enterprise ecosystem, India is expected to play a defining role in shaping Workday’s global transformation programs.
