New Delhi, August 20: Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday announced the nationwide rollout of IT 2.0 – Advanced Postal Technology (APT), calling it a “transformative leap” in India Post’s journey towards Digital India.

The digital upgrade, developed by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brings modernised, citizen-centric postal and financial services to over 1.70 lakh post offices across the country.

“APT will transform India Post into a world-class public logistics organisation. Led by the Prime Minister from the front, this is Aatmanirbhar Bharat in full strength, charting the path for a stronger, self-reliant Digital India,” Scindia said.

Hosted on the Government of India’s MeghRaj 2.0 cloud platform and supported by BSNL’s nationwide connectivity, the system replaces legacy processes with a microservices-based application, offering faster, more reliable services.

Key features of APT include:

  • Open API and microservices architecture
  • Unified user interface
  • Cloud-ready deployment
  • End-to-end digital booking-to-delivery solution
  • Next-gen functions like QR-code payments and OTP-based delivery
  • Open Network for reliable rural connectivity
  • A new 10-digit alphanumeric DIGIPIN for accurate deliveries
  • Enhanced reporting and analytics

The rollout followed a pilot in Karnataka Postal Circle earlier this year, after which learnings were integrated before extending the system to all 23 postal circles by August 4.

Recognising the central role of its workforce, India Post trained more than 4.6 lakh employees under the “Train – Retrain – Refresh” model. The system has already proven its scalability, handling over 32 lakh bookings and 37 lakh deliveries in a single day.

With IT 2.0, India Post seeks to position itself as a modern, technology-driven organisation that continues to uphold its legacy of trust while bridging the rural–urban digital divide and driving financial inclusion.
