Union Govt Approves 22 Proposals Under Third Tranche of Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said the ECMS programme has significantly strengthened India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, enabling a large share of domestic demand to be met indigenously.
New Delhi, January 3: The Union government has approved 22 new proposals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), involving a projected investment of ₹41,863 crore and an estimated production value of ₹2,58,152 crore, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said on Thursday. The approved projects are expected to generate 33,791 direct jobs, giving a significant boost to India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The latest approvals come in continuation of the 24 applications worth ₹12,704 crore cleared earlier. With this tranche, a total of 46 applications have now been approved under ECMS across 11 states, with cumulative investments of ₹54,567 crore and direct employment potential for around 51,000 people.
Focus on key components and supply chains
The approved proposals cover 11 target segment products with cross-sectoral applications in mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, strategic electronics, automotive and IT hardware. These include:
- Bare components: Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), capacitors, connectors, enclosures and lithium-ion cells
- Sub-assemblies: Camera modules, display modules and optical transceivers
- Supply chain items: Aluminium extrusion, anode material and copper-clad laminates
Approvals for PCBs, including HDI boards, have been granted to nine companies, including India Circuits, Vital Electronics, Signum Electronics, Epitome Components, BPL, AT&S India, Ascent-K Circuit, CIPSA TEC India and Shogini Technoarts.
For capacitor manufacturing, approvals have been given to Deki Electronics and TDK India. High-speed connectors will be manufactured by Amphenol High Speed Technology India. Enclosures for mobile and IT hardware products will be produced by Yuzhan Technology (India), Motherson Electronic Components and Tata Electronics. An application for lithium-ion cell manufacturing for digital applications has been approved for ATLBattery Technology (India).
In the sub-assembly category, Dixon Electroconnect has been approved for optical transceivers, Kunshan Q Tech Microelectronics (India) for camera module sub-assemblies, and Samsung Display Noida for display module sub-assemblies.
To deepen the domestic supply chain, approvals have also been granted to NPSPL Advanced Materials for anode material, Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials for copper-clad laminates, and Hindalco Industries for aluminium extrusion used in mobile phone enclosures, which are currently fully imported.
Pan-India spread of projects
The approved units are spread across Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, reinforcing the government’s focus on geographically balanced industrial growth.
Strengthening domestic manufacturing
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said the ECMS programme has significantly strengthened India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, enabling a large share of domestic demand to be met indigenously. He noted that India’s young demographic profile and long-term growth prospects make it imperative to put strong structural foundations in place for the sector.
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada said India is increasingly being viewed as a reliable electronics manufacturing destination amid global geopolitical uncertainty.
MeitY secretary S. Krishnan said the applications approved in the current tranche are critical for strengthening the electronics manufacturing ecosystem and advancing the core objectives of ECMS.
Officials said the latest approvals will reduce import dependence on critical components, strengthen domestic supply chains and support the growth of high-value electronics manufacturing, in line with the government’s vision of positioning India as a global hub for electronics manufacturing.
