Chennai, August 20: Tata Agrico, Tata Steel’s oldest brand in the agricultural tools segment, has become the first agricultural tools brand in India to be awarded the prestigious GreenPro Certification by the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Green Products and Services Council. The certification was formally presented to Tata Steel at an event in Chennai on August 13 in the presence of industry leaders, sustainability experts, and dignitaries from CII.

The recognition underscores Tata Agrico’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable agricultural tools. The GreenPro Certification, a Type-I eco-label, helps customers identify products that adhere to strict environmental performance standards. Certified products undergo rigorous evaluation processes covering raw material sourcing, manufacturing practices, product performance, recycling potential, and overall environmental impact.

Peeyush Gupta, Vice President – TQM, Group Strategic Procurement & Supply Chain, Tata Steel, said the recognition reinforces the brand’s focus on sustainability. “We are proud to receive CII’s GreenPro Certification for Tata Agrico, a testament to our commitment to deliver high-quality agricultural tools that support sustainable farming practices and reduce carbon footprint. In a predominantly agrarian economy like India, such initiatives go a long way in promoting a culture of making responsible environmental choices and support the nation’s journey towards sustainable agriculture,” he said.

Industry experts believe the certification will strengthen Tata Agrico’s leadership in the agricultural tools market by integrating sustainability with innovation. Farmers and dealers across India are now expected to benefit from implements that are not only durable but also eco-friendly, supporting the country’s push toward sustainable agriculture.

Tata Agrico, launched in 1925, is Tata Steel’s oldest brand and has long been associated with high-quality agricultural implements. Over the decades, it has expanded its product portfolio to include garden tools, files, general-purpose hand tools, welding electrodes, cutting wheels, and grinding wheels, serving both agriculture and infrastructure sectors.

With this certification, Tata Agrico has set a new benchmark for sustainability in the agri-tools industry, aligning its nearly century-old legacy with India’s evolving environmental and agricultural goals.
