Scindia Reviews Connectivity Restoration in Flood-Hit States, Orders Urgent Measures

The meeting was attended by Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, senior ministry officials, BSNL representatives, and private telecom operators.
New Delhi, August 28: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess mobile connectivity restoration efforts in flood-affected Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, senior ministry officials, BSNL representatives, and private telecom operators. Scindia directed urgent, war-footing measures to restore services, particularly in Jammu’s Doda and Udhampur districts, which remain among the worst hit. He said progressive restrictions on inter-district and valley connectivity were being closely monitored to ensure timely normalization.
Officials briefed the Minister that most fibre cuts had already been repaired, with ground teams creating loops and restoring services. Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) has also been activated, enabling users to connect via alternate networks where their primary network is down.
Scindia stressed that uninterrupted mobile services were vital for citizens to remain connected with families and essential services. Expressing confidence in the coordinated efforts of telecom operators and state authorities, he said full restoration of connectivity would be achieved soon.
