NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Rozgar Mela has evolved into an institution over the years, enabling lakhs of young people to receive appointment letters across government departments and directly participate in nation building.
Addressing the 18th Rozgar Mela via video conferencing, Modi said more than 61,000 youth were beginning a new chapter in their lives by joining government service. He described the appointment letters as a pledge to accelerate the creation of a developed India, noting that the new recruits would strengthen national security, education, healthcare, financial services, energy security and public sector enterprises.
The Prime Minister said India is among the youngest nations in the world and the government is consistently working to create new opportunities for youth within the country and abroad. He pointed to trade and mobility agreements with several countries, saying these would open up new global avenues for young Indians.
Modi said the Rozgar Mela was launched to bring government recruitment into mission mode and is now being organised at more than 40 locations across the country. He congratulated the candidates present at all venues.
Highlighting employment generation, Modi said India has made unprecedented investments in modern infrastructure, creating jobs across construction-linked sectors. He said the startup ecosystem has expanded rapidly, with nearly two lakh registered startups employing over 21 lakh youth. Digital India, he added, has created a new economy, positioning the country as a global hub for animation, digital media and the fast-growing creator economy.
The Prime Minister said growing global trust in India is also translating into employment opportunities. He noted that India is the only major economy to have doubled its GDP in a decade and that more than 100 countries are investing in India through foreign direct investment. Compared to the decade before 2014, FDI inflows are over two-and-a-half times higher, he said.
Modi said India is emerging as a major manufacturing power, with strong growth in electronics, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, defence and automobiles. Electronics manufacturing has grown six-fold since 2014 to over ₹11 lakh crore, while exports have crossed ₹4 lakh crore. He said two-wheeler sales crossed two crore units in 2025, reflecting rising purchasing power.
Drawing attention to women’s participation, the Prime Minister said over 8,000 women received appointment letters at the event. He said women’s workforce participation has nearly doubled over the past 11 years, aided by schemes such as Mudra and Startup India, with female self-employment rising by about 15 percent.
Modi said the country has embarked on the Reform Express to make life and business easier. He cited next-generation GST reforms and new labour codes, saying these have strengthened social security for workers while benefiting businesses and entrepreneurs.
He urged the newly appointed employees to remember the difficulties faced by citizens in government offices and resolve to remove such hardships through small, people-centric reforms. Stressing honesty and continuous skill upgradation, Modi encouraged them to use platforms such as iGOT Karmayogi and work with the spirit of Nagrik Devo Bhava.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh was present among other dignitaries.
Since its inception, over 11 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through Rozgar Melas across the country. The 18th Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations, with recruits joining various ministries and departments including home affairs, health and family welfare, financial services and higher education.
