New Delhi, August 15: President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to the nation on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, called on citizens to uphold democratic values, eliminate corruption, and contribute to building a developed India by 2047.
Recalling the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the pain of Partition, she underlined justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity as the four pillars of democracy, with human dignity at their core. She noted that India has transformed from a poverty-stricken nation in 1947 to the fastest-growing major economy, registering 6.5% GDP growth in FY25, with inflation under control and exports rising.
President Murmu highlighted major achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, digital adoption, and AI, while stressing inclusive growth through welfare schemes, reduction in inequality, and empowerment of marginalised communities. She praised youth achievements in entrepreneurship, sports, and space exploration, and women’s breakthroughs in defence, security, and chess.
On security, she lauded the armed forces for “Operation Sindoor,” describing it as a decisive response to recent terrorist attacks in Kashmir, demonstrating both strategic clarity and Atmanirbhar Bharat’s success in defence manufacturing.
She urged citizens to protect the environment, address climate change, and maintain unity in the face of divisive forces. Extending greetings to armed forces, police, judiciary, civil services, the diaspora, and all citizens, she reaffirmed her belief in India’s bright future.
