Mumbai, October 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the Mahindra Tractors Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, marking a major step toward strengthening rural skill development and employability in one of the state’s most backward districts.
The centre, set up by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd in collaboration with the Department of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) and the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), aims to equip rural youth with industry-ready tractor and farm-machinery skills and open new livelihood avenues in agriculture and allied sectors.
Located within the Government ITI College, Gadchiroli, the facility offers hands-on technical training delivered by certified instructors, using modern equipment and structured curricula designed to match industry standards. Graduates will be eligible for on-the-job training and placement opportunities across Mahindra’s manufacturing plants and dealership networks.
Empowering Rural Youth Through Skills
Speaking on the occasion, Veejay Nakra, President – Farm Equipment Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusive development.
“We are deeply honoured that the Hon’ble Prime Minister inaugurated the Mahindra Tractor Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli. Maharashtra is not just a leading industrial centre but also integral to India’s farm-sector growth story. It is a matter of pride to partner with the Government of Maharashtra in creating a future where our rural communities are uplifted by cultivating skills and harvesting hope,” he said.
The initiative aligns with the government’s vision under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to expand skill-based education and harness India’s demographic dividend through focused training and employability programmes.
Mahindra’s Global Tractor Legacy
Mahindra Tractors, India’s leading tractor brand and the world’s largest tractor manufacturer by volume, recently achieved the milestone of four million tractors sold globally across more than 50 countries. Known for rugged, fuel-efficient machines, Mahindra has manufacturing operations in India, North America, Brazil, Finland, Turkey, and Japan.
Through initiatives such as the Gadchiroli Skill Development Centre, the company seeks to combine industrial excellence with social responsibility—bridging the gap between rural talent and modern agri-machinery needs while contributing to the nation’s broader skilling and employment agenda.
