NCEL Crosses ₹5400 Crore in Exports; Boosts Cooperative Sector’s Global Reach

New Delhi, August 5: The Ministry of Cooperation announced that the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), established under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, has achieved export volumes of over 13.49 lakh metric tonnes, generating a total value of ₹5,403 crore to date. The initiative aims to propel the Indian cooperative sector into global markets.
NCEL functions as an umbrella organization to support the export of surplus goods and services produced by cooperatives across India. With a broad mandate—including procurement, processing, branding, marketing, packaging, and certification—NCEL also facilitates financing, market intelligence, and capacity building to enhance the cooperative export ecosystem.
As of now, 11,034 cooperative societies have joined NCEL, including over 10,700 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and other primary cooperatives.
In the fiscal year 2023–24, NCEL exported 2.66 lakh metric tonnes of agricultural commodities valued at ₹1,113 crore. In 2024–25, the volume surged to over 10.82 lakh metric tonnes, worth ₹4,283 crore, including key commodities like non-basmati white rice, whole broken rice, onions, sugar, chickpeas, and spices. So far in FY 2025–26, exports worth ₹6.3 crore have already been recorded.
The ministry is also working through Indian Missions abroad to promote Indian cooperative exports and explore new markets. Bilateral MoUs have been signed with the Republic of Zambia and Senegal, along with private sector partnerships in Indonesia, to facilitate global trade alliances.
This progress was highlighted in a written reply to the Lok Sabha by Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthen the cooperative export framework and expand India’s cooperative footprint globally.
