Resolution on women’s representation adopted; initiative strengthens inclusive democracy under MY Bharat

New Delhi: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) platform, organised a nationwide Nari Shakti Youth Parliament on April 12, bringing together over 7,000 young women across 17 zones in a large-scale democratic engagement exercise.
Held under the theme “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat Ki Awaaz – Strengthening Inclusive Democracy,” the initiative was conducted simultaneously across cities including Mumbai, Amaravati, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Hisar, Delhi, Chandigarh, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ranchi, Lucknow, Patna and Srinagar, reflecting its nationwide scale and inclusiveness.
The programme served as a structured platform for youth-led policy dialogue, with participants from diverse academic, social and regional backgrounds engaging in parliamentary-style discussions on key issues related to governance and development.
The initiative builds on the government’s emphasis on youth participation in policymaking, with several ideas reflected in the Union Budget 2026 drawing from deliberations held during the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026.
A key outcome of the Youth Parliament was the adoption of a resolution across all 17 zones supporting enhanced representation of women in legislative institutions. The resolution endorsed the proposed Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to expand the strength of the Lok Sabha from 543 to 816 seats, with 33 percent reservation for women.
The resolution also supported the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam from the 2029 general elections, while advocating for delinking its rollout from delimitation constraints to ensure timely and effective implementation.
Dignitaries and public representatives attending the sessions highlighted the growing role of women as leaders and decision-makers in India’s development journey, encouraging greater participation in governance.
Alongside the Youth Parliament, the ministry also organised “Sundays on Cycle” events across multiple locations to promote environmental awareness, fitness and sustainable living, showcasing a broader approach to youth engagement.
Officials said the initiative reflects MY Bharat’s capacity to mobilise youth at scale and convert national priorities into grassroots-level participation. As India moves towards its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Nari Shakti Youth Parliament highlights the emergence of a generation of informed, articulate and action-oriented young women actively shaping the country’s future.
