Maxivision Launches 10 Super Speciality Eye Hospitals and Vision Centres in Chennai with ₹100 Crore Investment

MS Dhoni inaugurates Chennai’s first SiLK Elita laser vision correction service as Maxivision eyes pan-Tamil Nadu expansion
Chennai | August 2: In a major expansion move into Tamil Nadu’s capital, Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, one of India’s fastest-growing eye care networks, has launched 10 new eye hospitals and vision centres across Chennai, backed by a ₹100 crore investment over the next two years. The launch marks Maxivision’s formal entry into the Greater Chennai Region and a critical step in strengthening its pan-South India presence.
The new centres were inaugurated by former Team India captain and Chennai icon MS Dhoni, alongside Dr GSK Velu, Chairman & Managing Director, and Dr Kasu Prasad Reddy, Co-Chairman of Maxivision Group. Senior medical leaders Dr B Ganesh and Dr Shibu Varkey also attended the grand launch event.
SiLK Elita: Chennai’s First Flapless Laser Vision Correction Procedure
At the newly opened Anna Nagar centre, MS Dhoni unveiled SiLK Elita, a next-generation blade-free, flapless laser vision correction procedure, available for the first time in Chennai. Known for its pain-free experience, next-day recovery, and minimal risk of dry eye, the SiLK Elita procedure represents a significant innovation in refractive surgery.
Addressing Tamil Nadu’s Escalating Vision Burden
Tamil Nadu faces a rising ophthalmic burden, particularly in Chennai, where cataract prevalence is as high as 60%—double the state average. Post-COVID vision challenges among children and young adults, including dry eye, keratoconus, and screen-induced asthenopia, have also surged.
“Maxivision’s entry into Chennai was long overdue,” said Dr GSK Velu. “With this expansion, we’re strengthening the city’s ophthalmic infrastructure while creating professional avenues for local talent.”
The hospitals are also equipped to handle robotic femto-laser cataract surgeries, retinal diagnostics, glaucoma treatment, diabetic retinopathy, paediatric ophthalmology, and corneal transplants.
Project Velicham: Long-Term Commitment to Tamil Nadu
Maxivision’s Chennai expansion falls under Project Velicham, a public-private initiative supported by the Government of Tamil Nadu, through which Maxivision has committed ₹400 crore over four years to build 30+ hospitals and 100+ vision centres across the state.
“Our mission is to bring advanced, affordable eye care to underserved and middle-income communities,” said Dr Shibu Varkey, Regional Medical Director. “Early diagnosis and prevention are key to reducing long-term disease burden.”
MS Dhoni Champions Accessible Innovation
“Vision is something we often take for granted—until it fades,” said MS Dhoni, adding, “Maxivision’s commitment to blade-free and affordable eye care is both inspiring and impactful.”
Maxivision’s regional footprint already spans Trichy, Madurai, Salem, Tanjore, Kumbakonam, and Perambalur, and with Chennai now on the map, the group is poised for further growth across southern India.
