Chandinagar: A Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade marking the successful completion of training of Air Force Special Forces operatives of the Garud Commando Force was held on Friday at the Garud Regimental Training Centre (GRTC), Air Force Station Chandinagar.
The parade was reviewed by the assistant chief of air staff (operations – air defence), Air Vice Marshal T. Singh, who attended the event as the chief guest. The commandant of the Garud Regimental Training Centre received the chief guest and briefed him on the various facets of the training programme.
Addressing the newly trained commandos, the reviewing officer congratulated the trainees on completing the demanding course and underlined the importance of continuous skill enhancement to meet evolving security challenges. He presented Maroon Berets, Garud Proficiency Badges and Special Forces Tabs to the successful trainees, and also awarded trophies to outstanding performers.
As part of the passing-out ceremony, the Garud commandos demonstrated a range of operational skills, including combat firing, hostage rescue drills, use of assault explosives, obstacle crossing, wall climbing, slithering, rappelling and military martial arts.
The Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade marks the culmination of an intensive and physically demanding training schedule, signifying the transition of the trainees into operational Special Forces personnel of the Indian Air Force.
Officials said the induction of the newly trained commandos will further strengthen the Indian Air Force’s Special Forces capabilities, particularly in the context of expanded and newly defined mission profiles undertaken by the service.
