Bhopal: India Post will soon roll out two new time-bound delivery services—Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48—promising guaranteed delivery within 24 hours and 48 hours respectively, in a move aimed at setting new benchmarks for speed and reliability across the national postal network.

The announcement was made by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia during a programme in Pichhore, Madhya Pradesh, as part of the government’s broader push to modernise postal services and improve last-mile service delivery.

The two new offerings are expected to significantly enhance India Post’s competitiveness in the logistics and parcel delivery segment, particularly for time-sensitive consignments, while reinforcing its role as a trusted public service provider.

Postal capacity building and infrastructure push

Alongside the service announcement, the minister said the government is strengthening postal capacity and human resource development through a major investment in training infrastructure. He announced the establishment of a ₹111-crore National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri, which will become the seventh such centre in the country.

Currently, India Post operates six postal training centres at Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai and Darbhanga, collectively training around 2,000 personnel annually and having trained nearly 18,000 employees so far. The proposed Shivpuri centre is expected to significantly augment this ecosystem and place the district on the map of premier postal training institutions.

Scindia set a target of completing the new training centre within 8 to 12 months, directing senior postal officials to expedite execution. He said the foundation stone would be laid during his next visit, followed by inauguration within the stipulated timeline.

Modernised post offices inaugurated

During his visit to Madhya Pradesh from January 8 to 11, the minister also inaugurated six renovated and modernised post offices, including sub-post offices at Kolaras, Jagatpura, Badarwas, Pichhore and Katthamil, along with the City Post Office.

The upgraded facilities offer improved customer amenities and access to a range of services of the Department of Posts, including mail and parcel services, savings and insurance schemes, digital services and financial inclusion initiatives, particularly benefiting semi-urban and rural areas.

Officials said the combination of time-bound delivery services, capacity building through training, and infrastructure upgrades reflects India Post’s evolving role in a competitive logistics environment, aligned with the government’s vision of responsive, technology-enabled public service delivery.
