Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme Draws ₹1.15 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals, Surpassing Targets
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, urged states to seize the opportunity and develop local ecosystems to attract manufacturing hubs.
New Delhi, October 3: The government’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) has received an unprecedented response from domestic and international players, with 249 applications committing investments worth ₹1,15,351 crore—nearly double the targeted ₹59,350 crore.
Approved by the Cabinet in May 2025 with a fiscal outlay of ₹22,919 crore, the scheme aims to boost India’s self-reliance in electronics manufacturing. The proposals are expected to generate 1.42 lakh direct jobs, well above the original target of 91,600, alongside a significant multiplier effect in indirect employment.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, urged states to seize the opportunity and develop local ecosystems to attract manufacturing hubs. “The electronics manufacturing industry generates large-scale employment for the youth. This is a golden chance for states to build their own industry clusters,” he said.
The investments are projected to produce electronic components worth ₹10.34 lakh crore over the next six years—2.2 times the initial target of ₹4.56 lakh crore. Officials noted that the response underscores both the domestic industry’s deep commitment and growing global confidence in India’s electronics sector.
Secretary, MeitY, S. Krishnan said ECMS would deepen India’s domestic value chain and strengthen integration with global supply chains. The ministry has already initiated the approval process for eligible applicants.
Vaishnaw added that ECMS builds on the momentum of earlier policies such as the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC), SPECS, and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, and will help propel India towards its vision of a $500 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2030–31.
