Dr Jitendra Singh Stresses Tech-Driven Governance Training at IIPA Council Meet

New Delhi, September 30: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Chairman of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) Executive Council, Dr Jitendra Singh, on Monday called for deeper integration of emerging technologies into governance training. Chairing the 327th Executive Council meeting in New Delhi, he urged the adoption of artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and data-driven tools in capacity building for administrators.

Highlighting the transition of scientists and academicians into senior administrative roles, Singh said structured training in governance and communication is critical for leadership. He also underscored the role of social media in public administration, advocating workshops to guide officers on responsible engagement and curb misinformation.

The Council approved key agenda items, including the adoption of the annual report and accounts for 2024–25, admission of new life members, and the establishment of a new branch at Nanded, Maharashtra.

Annual awards were also announced: the Paul H. Appleby Award 2025 went to retired IAS officer Meenakshi Hooja, while the Dr Rajendra Prasad Award for Academic Excellence was conferred on Prof. Prakash C. Sarangi, former Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University. Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and a joint entry from Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram won Best Performing Branch awards.

IIPA Director General Surendra Nath Tripathi reported that between April and September 2025, the institute conducted 49 training programmes benefiting 2,809 officials and completed six research projects, with 21 more underway. He highlighted IIPA’s use of smart classrooms and live-streamed sessions to widen outreach.

The meeting also noted IIPA’s growing collaborations, including partnerships with NDMA, CDRI, Amazon Web Services, HCL Technologies, Tata Group, and Maruti Udyog. Specialised training programmes were held for banks such as HDFC, ICICI, SBI, and Bank of Baroda.

Calling IIPA a premier national institution for governance training, Singh said it must continue to expand nationally and internationally, aligning with the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. “By reaching out to districts, local governments, and private stakeholders, IIPA can help build a future-ready governance ecosystem,” he said.
