DPIIT Signs MoU with Roche India to Accelerate Healthcare Innovation and Support Startups in Critical Therapeutic Areas

Startups to gain global mentorship, infrastructure access, and international exposure under strategic public-private partnership
New Delhi | August 1: In a landmark initiative to strengthen India’s health innovation ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Roche Products to support Indian startups innovating in high-priority therapeutic segments such as oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, haematology, and rare diseases.
The collaboration aims to empower DPIIT-recognized startups with global mentorship, access to advanced healthcare technologies, infrastructure, and platforms for international exposure and validation. Roche India will also assist in conducting pilot studies, validation trials, and offer strategic guidance in navigating regulatory landscapes and meeting global health standards.
Enabling Innovation with Global Support
The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Dr Sumeet Jarangal, Director at DPIIT, and Rajwinder Mehdwan, Managing Director of Roche India, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Sanjiv, emphasized the transformative potential of industry–startup collaboration in health innovation. He highlighted the importance of real-world validation and capacity-building initiatives in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Good Clinical Practices (GCP), and patient engagement as essential components of the MoU.

Describing the partnership as the beginning of a long-term strategic journey, Rajwinder Mehdwan noted, “This collaboration will help nurture healthtech startups in India to create patient-centric solutions tailored to our unique healthcare landscape while tapping into Roche’s global expertise and innovation ecosystem.”
