New Delhi, August 18: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he interacted with undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, as well as innovators and researchers. The minister encouraged the country’s young talent to drive technological advancement and innovation in line with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

During the interaction, Pradhan stressed that the current moment offers a unique opportunity to focus on self-reliance and collective action for national priorities, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address. “The talent, tenacity and resolve of our youth, coupled with the pursuit of self-reliance, will pave the way for strengthening Bharat’s technological and economic sovereignty,” he said.

He urged students to keep working on new ideas, take on challenges, and persist until India achieves self-reliance in every sphere. Highlighting the pivotal role of IITs, he said they form the bedrock of a self-reliant India, and that with strong support from the government, India’s YuvaShakti will “rewrite the rules of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Pradhan also assured students that the government stands firmly behind innovators and researchers to help establish India as a global hub of solutions. He informed that he would revisit IIT Delhi to review the innovations being developed by its students.

Dr Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, and Prof. Rangan Bannerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, were present at the event. Dr Joshi reiterated the Prime Minister’s message on the role of youth in making India self-reliant and said the ministry is extending all possible support to institutions to advance innovation, strengthen research capacity, and address national challenges.
