Tests were also conducted at major public locations such as India Gate, New Delhi Railway Station, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Sarojini Nagar Market, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Hauz Khas Metro Station.
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released the findings of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) for the Delhi Licensed Service Area, assessing real-world mobile network performance across major parts of the national capital during December 2025.
The assessment, conducted under the supervision of TRAI’s regional office in Delhi, covered urban zones, institutional areas, public transport hubs and high-speed corridors. Tests were carried out between December 15 and 18 across 347.4 km of city drive routes, 12 hotspot locations and 7.8 km of walk tests. Network performance was evaluated across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies.
Voice Service Performance
According to the findings, call setup success rates in auto-selection mode stood at 100 percent for Airtel, 98.36 percent for Reliance Jio, 99.64 percent for Vodafone Idea and 95.23 percent for MTNL.
Drop call rates were recorded at 0.12 percent for Airtel, 0.36 percent for Reliance Jio, 0.00 percent for Vodafone Idea and 6.60 percent for MTNL. Mean Opinion Score (MOS), a key indicator of voice quality, averaged 4.44 for Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, 3.98 for Airtel and 2.75 for MTNL.
Data Services Performance
In terms of data services, Reliance Jio recorded the highest average download speed at 265.51 Mbps on 5G and 4G networks, followed by Airtel at 168.92 Mbps. Vodafone Idea recorded an average download speed of 34.35 Mbps across 5G, 4G and 2G, while MTNL’s 3G network recorded 4.40 Mbps.
Average upload speeds were measured at 25.54 Mbps for Airtel, 22.33 Mbps for Reliance Jio, 22.96 Mbps for Vodafone Idea and 1.19 Mbps for MTNL.
Latency performance across operators remained broadly comparable, with 50th percentile latency recorded at around 20–22 milliseconds.
Coverage Areas and Hotspots
The assessment covered high-density residential and commercial areas including Hauz Khas, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Janpath, Rajinder Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar and Model Town. Tests were also conducted at major public locations such as India Gate, New Delhi Railway Station, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Sarojini Nagar Market, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Hauz Khas Metro Station.
Walk tests were carried out at Connaught Place and Chandni Chowk to capture network behaviour in crowded pedestrian environments.
TRAI said the findings of the drive test have been shared with all telecom service providers for necessary action. The regulator added that the exercise is aimed at objectively assessing user experience and ensuring compliance with quality-of-service benchmarks.
