Cabinet Approves ₹13,037 Crore Jaipur Metro Phase-2 to Boost Urban Mobility
The project, comprising 36 stations, will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan.
41-km North–South corridor to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion and emissions

New Delhi, April 8: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved Jaipur Metro Phase-2, a 41-km North–South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, at a total cost of ₹13,037.66 crore.
The project, comprising 36 stations, will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan.
The new corridor will connect key activity hubs including Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Stadium, Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar, significantly improving urban connectivity. The project includes underground stations in the airport area and will integrate with the existing Phase-1 network through interchanges and feeder systems to create a seamless metro network across the city.
Jaipur Metro Phase-1 currently serves around 60,000 passengers daily on its 11.64-km East–West corridor between Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar. With the expansion under Phase-2, ridership is expected to increase substantially, boosting the share of public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The project has undergone multiple levels of appraisal, including inter-ministerial consultation, review by the Network Planning Group and evaluation by the Public Investment Board. It has demonstrated strong economic viability, with an Economic Internal Rate of Return exceeding the threshold of 14 per cent.
Funding for the project will be supported through equity contributions from the Centre and the state, along with subordinate debt and multilateral financing, in line with the Metro Rail Policy, 2017.
Aligned with the Rajasthan Transit-Oriented Development Policy 2025 and proposed Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority reforms, the project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, lower vehicular emissions and improve ease of mobility for residents, workers and tourists.
Targeted for completion by September 2031, Jaipur Metro Phase-2 will complement the existing corridor and provide citywide connectivity, reinforcing Jaipur’s transformation into a modern, future-ready urban centre while supporting the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
