New Delhi, August 14: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched nationwide network-side Anti-Spam and Anti-Smishing protection for its mobile users, ensuring that harmful links in SMS messages are blocked before reaching customers. The service requires no app installation or user action, and is enabled by default across live BSNL circles.

The system, developed in partnership with India-based cloud communications provider Tanla, uses AI/ML, natural language processing, reputation intelligence, and link expansion to detect suspicious or phishing URLs in real time. Malicious links are withheld at the network edge, while legitimate one-time passwords, banking alerts, and government notifications continue to be delivered in compliance with TRAI’s DLT/UCC framework.

Previewed at the India Mobile Congress 2024, the solution is now being extended nationwide as part of ongoing network upgrades. BSNL says the technology achieves over 99% efficacy against smishing, detecting more than 1.5 million scams daily, identifying 35,000+ unique fraudulent links, and flagging 60,000 scam-associated WhatsApp and mobile numbers each month.

Powered by four proprietary AI/ML engines and deep learning models, the system integrates with major web and messaging platforms to quickly neutralize new scam campaigns. “Safe, secure, and always connected” remains the goal, the company said, adding that this protection significantly reduces the risk of credential theft and payment fraud for its subscribers.
