Ahmedabad, August 31: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the Janrakshak projects under Dial 112 in Ahmedabad, describing it as a major step towards building a “New Age Smart Policing System” in Gujarat. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi were also present at the launch.

The project, implemented by the State Emergency Response Centre in Ahmedabad, will deploy a fleet of 1,000 GPS-equipped Janrakshak PCR vans integrated with ambulance and fire services, offering citizens quick access to emergency support by dialing a single number — 112. Shah noted that the unified helpline replaces a maze of earlier toll-free numbers, making services like police, ambulance, fire, disaster management, women’s and child helplines available through one platform. Gujarat will spend ₹92 crore annually to operate the project.

Shah also inaugurated newly constructed police housing and offices worth ₹217 crore and flagged off 108 ambulances as part of the rollout. He expressed personal pride that Mansa Police Station — in his hometown — has received BIS certification.

The Home Minister underlined that the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of smart policing, combining technology with integrated response systems to ensure citizens’ security.

On national security, Shah said the Modi government has translated the doctrine of zero tolerance to terrorism into reality over the past 11 years, citing surgical strikes, air strikes, and “Operation Sindoor” as evidence of India’s resolve to protect its citizens. He asserted that terrorism, insurgency in the North-East, and Naxalism have been systematically curbed under the Modi government’s leadership, adding that “Naxalism will be eliminated completely by March 31, 2026.”

Earlier in the day, Shah inaugurated Urban Health Centres in Gota and Chandlodia, planted trees across Ahmedabad wards, visited the Bhadrakali Mata temple, and opened the redeveloped Sardar Baug project.
