1,140 youth from marginalized communities to receive NSDC-certified training over three years
Kolar (Karnataka): CBM India Trust, in partnership with HDFC Bank Parivartan, has launched ‘Empowerment Through Skills: Inclusive Training for Economic Independence’ in Kolar, Karnataka, aimed at equipping youth from marginalized communities and persons with disabilities with market-relevant skills.
The three-year initiative will train 1,140 young people in IT and IT-enabled services, retail and logistics, as well as basic computer and life skills. The training will be delivered at the Parivartan Skill Academy in Kolar, with participants receiving certification accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) upon successful completion.
The programme includes hands-on industry exposure and practical workplace experience. Post-certification, trainees will receive placement support, including personalised career counselling, resume preparation assistance and interview-readiness coaching.
The initiative also focuses on enabling inclusive hiring by working with employers to make workplaces accessible for persons with disabilities. Continued post-placement engagement will aim to ensure job retention. Participants will also be connected to relevant government schemes and social security programmes.
Sony Thomas, Executive Director, CBM India Trust, said Kolar’s growing industrial, logistics and retail sectors, along with its proximity to Bengaluru’s IT ecosystem, present emerging opportunities. However, he noted that youth from marginalized backgrounds and persons with disabilities continue to face barriers in securing employment. He described the initiative as a bridge between young people and local economic opportunities.
The launch ceremony was attended by Praveen P. Bagewadi, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, Kolar, along with district officials and representatives from HDFC Bank and CBM India. Industry representatives and members of the Malur Industry Association were also present.
