CtrlS deploys Ciena optical technology to build 100 Tb/s metro networks for hyperscalers
CtrlS is building five high-capacity metro networks connecting nine data centers across major Indian cities as AI and cloud services drive growing demand for faster, resilient connectivity.
The deployment comes amid growing bandwidth requirements driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services and forms part of a larger Managed Optical Fiber Network (MOFN) project for a leading hyperscaler, the companies said on Monday.
HYDERABAD: CtrlS Datacenters is deploying optical networking technology from Ciena to build five metro networks connecting nine data centers across Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and Noida, with the infrastructure designed to deliver capacity of up to 100 terabits per second (Tb/s).
The deployment comes amid growing bandwidth requirements driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services and forms part of a larger Managed Optical Fiber Network (MOFN) project for a leading hyperscaler, the companies said on Monday.
The project is aimed at strengthening high-speed connectivity across CtrlS’ metro footprint and supporting the increasing network requirements of hyperscalers and enterprises operating AI- and cloud-intensive workloads.

He said Ciena’s optical networking and network-management capabilities would strengthen CtrlS’ ability to provide resilient network services for digital businesses with demanding performance requirements.
Prashant Ramesh Malkani, Vice President and General Manager, India, Ciena, said CtrlS has been expanding its data center infrastructure to serve India’s growing digital economy, with AI further accelerating demand.
“With this upgrade, CtrlS is boosting network performance to accelerate the next wave of digital adoption in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets,” Malkani said.
Optical infrastructure for AI-era bandwidth
As part of the deployment, CtrlS will use Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme-powered Waveserver platform and 6500 Reconfigurable Line System. Ciena Services will provide end-to-end project management, while its Navigator Network Control Suite will be used to automate network operations and accelerate service delivery.
CtrlS, founded in 2007, currently operates 19 data centers across nine markets in India with more than 370 MW of capacity. The company also has 4.4 GW of projects at various stages of execution as it expands AI-ready and hyperscale infrastructure. It has announced plans to enter international markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, beginning with Thailand.
Ciena provides high-speed connectivity technologies spanning networking systems, interconnects, automation software and services, with its infrastructure designed to address increasing bandwidth and network-management requirements.
