Yuva Fit Toh Desh Hit!, says Narendra Modi at NCC PM Rally

DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said a fit and disciplined youth force is essential for building a developed India, asserting that “Yuva Fit Toh Desh Hit” while addressing the Annual NCC PM Rally at the Cariappa Parade Ground.
Addressing thousands of NCC cadets from across the country and abroad, Narendra Modi described the NCC as a movement that empowers India’s yuva shakti and builds confident, disciplined and socially responsible citizens. He said the world today looks at India’s youth with great confidence because of their skills, values and work ethic.
The Prime Minister began his address on a sombre note, referring to the tragic plane crash in Maharashtra earlier in the day that claimed the lives of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and several colleagues. He said Ajit Dada made a significant contribution to the development of Maharashtra and the nation, particularly in improving rural life, and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He added that the nation stands in solidarity with them in this moment of grief.
Highlighting the growing role of NCC, Narendra Modi said the number of cadets has increased from 14 lakh to 20 lakh in recent years, with expansion in border and coastal areas. He said NCC platforms instil pride in India’s heritage, citing initiatives such as the Paramveer Sagar Yatra, island festivals in Lakshadweep and cycle rallies showcasing national heroes.
Referring to India’s global engagements, the Prime Minister said the recently finalised agreement with the European Union is drawing worldwide attention, with many calling it the mother of all deals and a global game-changer. He said the agreement will open major opportunities for Indian youth in startups, research, education, technology, creative industries and professional services across 27 European countries.
Narendra Modi said modern battles are fought not only with weapons but also in code and in the cloud, warning that nations which fall behind in technology become weak both economically and in terms of security. He underlined the growing role of youth-driven innovation in defence, including startups, indigenous drones and artificial intelligence.
On citizenship and democracy, the Prime Minister said a developed India depends not only on economic progress but also on how citizens conduct themselves. He urged young people to place the highest priority on duties, citing Swachh Bharat as an example of a people-led movement. He proposed that NCC, NSS and My Young India organise annual events on January 25 to honour first-time voters.
Emphasising health and lifestyle, Narendra Modi raised concerns over rising obesity among youth and urged moderation in food habits, including a reduction in oil consumption. He said fitness must become a way of life and praised NCC cadets for advancing the Fit India campaign and excelling in sports.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the role of NCC cadets during Operation Sindoor, noting their support to the armed forces through blood donation, first aid and civil assistance. He said NCC training goes beyond drill and parade, instilling the spirit of Nation First.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Mansukh Mandaviya and Sanjay Seth were present among other dignitaries.
The theme of this year’s Annual NCC PM Rally is Rashtra Pratham – Kartavya Nishtha Yuva. The event marked the culmination of the month-long NCC Republic Day Camp 2026, with participation from over 2,400 cadets, including 898 girl cadets and representatives from 21 foreign countries.
