New Delhi, August 13: The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) and the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) have jointly launched the second edition of their four-month certification programme for audit committee members and independent directors, aimed at enhancing corporate governance skills and financial oversight capabilities.

The initiative follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NFRA and IICA in October 2024. The first course, held from January to May 2025, drew 79 participants and received strong feedback, prompting the launch of this second programme in a virtual ceremony led by IICA Director General and CEO Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh.

Inaugurating the programme, NFRA Chairperson Nitin Gupta underscored the vital role of independent directors and audit committee members as “guardians of financial integrity” and emphasised the need for integrity, courage, and clarity in corporate oversight.

The course is structured into two modules — an optional foundation module for non-finance professionals covering accounting principles, financial analysis, liquidity management, and investment evaluation; and a mandatory module on internal controls, audits, related party transactions, fraud risk management, ESG, and sustainability reporting. It also incorporates case studies and practical insights.

NFRA said the programme aligns with its mandate to promote awareness of accounting and auditing standards, auditor responsibilities, and audit quality through education, training, and outreach.
