New Delhi, September 3: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday chaired a consultation workshop in the capital, stressing the government’s focus on sustainable infrastructure and seamless urban connectivity.

The workshop, attended by Minister of State Ajay Tamta, Harsh Malhotra, senior state government officials and municipal commissioners, discussed policy innovations aimed at easing traffic bottlenecks in fast-growing cities.

Gadkari underlined that construction of ring roads and bypasses around urban centers is a key priority, enabling traffic diversion from city cores and reducing congestion on national highways. “Our goal is to build world-class and future-ready road infrastructure that supports both mobility and planned urban growth,” he said.

The deliberations also covered adoption of value capture financing models to sustain funding requirements and the need to integrate highway development with city master plans for better coordination. Officials noted that aligning infrastructure with urban planning would help regulate development in the influence zones of these projects.

According to the ministry, the initiative is expected to accelerate economic growth, improve connectivity, and contribute to environmentally responsible urban development.
