Calls Project a Defining Milestone in Swarnandhra Pradesh’s Journey of Progress and Self-Reliance

New Delhi, October 15: The upcoming 1-gigawatt hyperscale Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam is expected to generate around ₹10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar announced today.

Calling it a “defining milestone in Swarnandhra Pradesh’s journey of progress and self-reliance,” Dr Chandrasekhar said Google’s $15 billion investment (2026–2030) will create 5,000–6,000 direct jobs and 20,000–30,000 total jobs in the state. The project will bring large-scale infrastructure, power, and cooling facilities to Visakhapatnam, spurring a multiplier effect on the regional economy.

The minister was speaking to the media after Google announced plans to establish its first AI hub in India alongside the data centre at the Bharat AI Shakti event held in New Delhi. The Visakhapatnam facility will be India’s first gigawatt-scale data centre and a major step in developing the state into a digital and AI innovation hub.

Dr Chandrasekhar lauded the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh for their persistent efforts in attracting Google to Andhra Pradesh. He said the initiative will accelerate the state’s digital transformation and strengthen India’s position in the global AI ecosystem.

The event was attended by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, I&B, Electronics & IT; Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs; N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; Nara Lokesh, IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh; and Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.
