ECI Holds Workshop for CEO Media Officers, Stresses on Countering Misinformation with Facts

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, addressed the participants during the inaugural session.
New Delhi, September 13: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday organised a one-day workshop for Media and Communication Officers of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) offices from all 36 States and Union Territories at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The programme brought together 51 Media Nodal Officers (MNOs) and Social Media Nodal Officers (SMNOs) to strengthen election-related communication and counter misinformation.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, addressed the participants during the inaugural session. The Commission underlined the growing challenge of misinformation and emphasised that elections in India are conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution. Officials were urged to proactively counter misleading narratives by disseminating facts.
The workshop included dedicated sessions on the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls from media and social media perspectives. Experts also conducted a session on tools, techniques, and strategies to combat misinformation in the digital age.
This was the third such engagement organised by the ECI this year, following earlier orientation programmes for Media and Communication Officers held at IIIDEM in April and June.
