Chennai, Udaipur, and Aizawl shine at Urban Mobility India Conference & Expo 2025 in Gurugram

Union Minister Manohar Lal highlights India’s transition toward sustainable, technology-driven, and inclusive urban mobility; Bhubaneswar to host next edition in 2026
Gurugram, Nov 10: The 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2025, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), concluded today in Gurugram, Haryana, celebrating innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in urban transport. The three-day event brought together over 1,600 delegates from eight countries, including policymakers, city leaders, researchers, and mobility experts.
The conference, held on the theme “Urban Development and Mobility Nexus,” featured eight technical sessions, two plenary discussions including a mayoral session, and multiple symposiums exploring the future of mobility. During the valedictory session, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal launched the logo of the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme and its official website.
The event was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, and MoHUA Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, along with senior officials including Dr Raja Sekhar Vundru, Dr Chander Shekhar Khare, and AK Singh of the Town and Country Planning Department.
Addressing the valedictory session, Manohar Lal said India’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities must now adopt modern, sustainable mobility systems to ensure they are “well-planned and future-ready” before transitioning into Tier-1 centres. He also urged metro authorities to explore premium and luxury compartments for high-income passengers to make public transport aspirational and financially sustainable.
The Minister highlighted the need to expand the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) beyond Delhi–NCR to other key metropolitan clusters like Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and reduce intercity travel time.
Urban Transport Excellence Awards 2025
The event culminated with the Urban Transport Excellence Awards 2025, recognizing cities and metro corporations for outstanding contributions to sustainable and inclusive urban mobility. Key winners included:
- Chennai – Best Public Transport System (Metropolitan Transport Corporation Ltd.)
- Udaipur – Best Non-Motorized Transport System (Udaipur Smart City Ltd.)
- Pimpri Chinchwad – Most Innovative Financing Mechanism
- Hyderabad – Best Green Transport Initiative (TGREDCO)
- Delhi Metro Rail Corporation – Best Passenger Services & Satisfaction
- Chennai Metro Rail Ltd – Best Multimodal Integration
- Kolkata and Mysuru – Best Urban Transport Project Implementation
- Aizawl – Special Award for Efficient Traffic Management
Special commendations were also given to Hubballi-Dharwad, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, and Thrissur for excellence in various categories.
Exhibition Excellence Awards
In the exhibition segment, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) won the First Prize for best display, followed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Second) and the Embassy of Spain (Third).
Next Edition in Bhubaneswar
Concluding the event, Union Minister Manohar Lal announced that the 19th Urban Mobility India Conference & Exhibition 2026 will be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from October 23 to 25, 2026.
The Gurugram edition reaffirmed India’s commitment to advancing sustainable, technology-enabled, and inclusive urban mobility — key pillars of the country’s smart city transformation.
