New Delhi, August 28:The central government has extended the exemption of import duty on cotton until December 31, 2025, in a move aimed at ensuring sufficient availability of the raw material for the textile sector and supporting exporters.

The exemption, which was earlier notified for the period between August 19 and September 30, has now been extended by three more months, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday. The duty waiver applies to cotton classified under HS 5201.

Officials said the measure is intended to ease input costs for the textile industry and provide relief to exporters grappling with volatile cotton prices. A formal notification is expected shortly.
